I was part of a local panel discussion on the Reality/Virtuality Continuum for Future Life and Work.

This panel talk was in Dutch.

In addition to our ‘real’ life - sipping coffee, taking a shower, or trimming hedges in the garden - we are increasingly living in a parallel digital universe. Think of high-tech applications in virtual and augmented reality: 3D holographic avatars in the gaming world and virtual online meetings. Facebook, now known as Meta, is fully embracing the concept of a Metaverse that is accessible to everyone.

To what extent do these new digital possibilities and hyper-real alternative worlds enrich (or impoverish) our future life and work? What do they mean for human connection and distance? Why are virtual worlds particularly attractive to young people? What about privacy and reliability? And what does the future hold?
